The Electrical Apprenticeship Program offers all accepted applicants a career future unmatched by many industries. After the completion of the two, three or five year apprenticeship programs, a journey person has the opportunity of the security of holding this status for the rest of their life.
All apprentices entering the program are registered with the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training and the Department of Labor. As a registered apprentice, maintaining satisfactory performance, you are guaranteed to receive a minimum of 800 hours classroom related studies and a minimum of 8,000 hours on-the-job training for the Five Year Program. The Three Year Program requires a minimum of 480 hours classroom related studies and 4,800 hours of on-the-job training. The Two Year Residential Program requires 240 hours classroom related studies and 4,000 hours on-the-job training.
The Electrical Apprenticeship Program will provide you with employment with an electrical contractor. The contractor will place you on the job with a qualified journey person(s) that has extensive experience in the electrical trade. The normal work week is 40 hours on-the-job.
Schooling is held in Cedar Rapids at the new Electrical Training Center located at 2300 Johnson Avenue, NW. Schooling is conducted through the normal school year usually beginning in late August and ending in June.
The Electrical Apprenticeship Program offers the apprentice a standard set of seven wage increases for the Five Year Program, six wage increases for the Three Year Program and five wage increases for the Two Year Program which coincide with the on-the-job training hours and satisfactory schooling completed.
The Two Year Program was developed to train residential wire persons. The scope of work for these individuals is to install or update wiring for single or multi-family dwellings.
The Three Year Program was developed to train electrical telecommunications installer/technicians in a variety of voice, data, video fields such as computer networks, phone networks, security systems, fire alarm systems, etc.
The Five Year Program was developed to train individuals in the installation and updating of wiring in offices and commercial-type buildings. It also trains apprentices for installation and maintenance of electrical systems in large industrial applications.
