The Villages of Van Buren County, Iowa Bus Trip May 2008
The Retirees' Social Club set out for Van Buren County, Iowa on Thursday, May 8, 2008. The day started out cool but after the clouds cleared away, the temps warmed up into the upper 60's. All 48 members enjoyed a relaxed day of shopping specialty stores and a delicious homemade lunch at the Bonaparte Retreat in Bonaparte, Iowa. After lunch, it was onto more sight-seeing and browsing through shops and ending the day at The Whispering Pines Winery in Keosauqua, Iowa with wine-tasting while lounging in the sunshine.
Dubuque, Iowa Bus Trip October 2007
The Retirees' Social Club left for Dubuque, Iowa on Thursday, October 4, 2007. It was a warm, sunny day with temperatures in the low 80's. The 62 members that were present enjoyed their first stop at Czipar's Orchard in Dubuque. Then they went onto a relaxing two-hour lunch cruise on the Spirit of Dubuque. Afterwards, they finished up with a wine tasting and tour of Park Farm Winery in Bankston, Iowa. It was a warm and fun day.
Pella, Iowa Bus Trip April 2007
The Retirees' Social Club left the Hall on a very cool, rainy morning in April to travel to Pella, Iowa. There were 48 members present on this bus trip. They experienced a step-on bus tour of the city of Pella then ate a wonderful lunch at the Pella Golf & Country Club. After lunch the rain subsided so they headed to the Historical District to tour the History Museum that included the Pella windmill and Wyatt Earp's childhood home. Later in the afternoon, they concluded their trip with shopping at the specialty shops in Pella.
Gays Mills, Wisconsin Bus Trip October 2006
The Retirees' Social Club had a great turnout for their first bus trip ever with 32 members present. They left the Hall at 8:00 am to travel to Gays Mills, Wisconsin. Their first stop was at Fleming Orchard and from there they went to the Gays Mills City Park where they enjoyed a box lunch packed by Dostal Catering. After lunch they moved onto Sunrise and Kickapoo Orchards before again boarding the bus. On the way home, they stopped at the Grotto in Dickeyville, Wisconsin to enjoy the sites it had to offer. It was a fun, fall day that turned out to be sunny and in the low 60's.
The Retirees' Social Club is a great way to get together and just have a good time. They meet monthly on the third Thursday at various restaurants in the Cedar Rapids area and quarterly at the Local 405 Union Hall for lunch and bingo following.
